THE WALKS

History & Informative Tours

§  Hothfield History: Manor & pre 1954  A  2  1½  miles 2¼ hours 0 stiles. A stroll through history, with illustrations and unprecedented access to sites of interest led by the chairman of the Hothfield History Society.  Together with a visit to Hothfield Vineyard.

§  Old Hothfield Manor Estate  A  1 1 miles 2¼ hours 0 stiles. A stroll around the estate, including the waterfall, pump house & the remains of the Manor House, with a photographic information booklet.

§  Old Hothfield Nature Trail  A  1 2 miles 2¾ hours 0 stiles.  We will follow a 1960’s trail around the Commons and Hothfield Heathlands, highlighting the changes over the years, together with childhood memories of the village.

§  Hothfield H2O B  2  5 ½ miles 3 ½ hrs 3 stiles. Visit the Waterfall, two fishing lakes, walk by the Great Stour along a private path, and examine Hothfield Water Defences.  No dogs allowed on this walk.

Family Strolls

§  Family Map Stick Fun Walk A  1  1 mile 1 hour 0 stiles.  Explore our wonderful, unique nature reserve & make map sticks. This walk will start & finish at the Hothfield Heathlands car park (TN26 1HD).  Recommended for younger children.

§  Family Detectives  A  1  3 miles 2 hours 0 stiles.  Get your mobiles out to search for clues using geocaching, over the scenic countryside.  Recommended for children over 10.

§  The Animals of Hothfield B  2  4 miles 2½ hrs 1 stile.  Visit Highland cattle, Konik ponies & Hebridean sheep on Hothfield Heathlands and the Icelandic Skreppa Horses CIC (who support the mental health of children in Kent).  Due to interaction with other animals, dogs are not allowed on this walk.  Recommended for older children.

§  Godinton Meander B  2  3 ¼ miles 2 ¼ hrs 5 stiles.  Walk out along the Greensand Way past the waterfall and pillbox to the beautiful parkland of Godinton House.  Then along the driveway to the House itself and back to the Church via the Stour Valley Walk.  Not recommended for dogs due to livestock & stiles. Recommended for older children.   BOOKED

§  The Dog Walk B  2  4 miles 2¼ hrs 3 stiles. It’s purely about the dogs!  Opportunities for well-behaved dogs to have a run off the lead & possibly a paddle.  Walk will include “Doggy Heaven” field.  One stile not dog friendly.  Recommended for fitter dogs and children.

 

 Scenic Walks

§  North Hothfield toward Tutt Hill  B 3  4 miles 2¼ hrs 1 stile.  A lovely walk to the north of the village then back through Oakover Nurseries fields & the Hothfield Heathlands.

§  Scenic South Hothfield  B  2   4¼ miles 2¼ hrs 3 stiles.   Start on the Greensand Way, then along the Stour Valley Walk and then along a private path by the river & up on the bunds to view the South of Hothfield.

§  Towards Little Chart C  3    6 miles 3 hrs 3 stiles.  A long walk via the Hothfield Heathlands, then through fields by-passing Little Chart to the Stour Valley Walk and the Greensand Way.

All return times are estimates & all walks are subject to change.

All walks start & finish at St Margaret’s Church (TN26 1EL) except where indicated with a * where it will start & finish at the Hothfield’s Heathlands car park.

Well behaved dogs, on leads, are welcome on walks unless otherwise stated.

 GRADING

A       Gentle: This walk will follow a gentle/slow stroll.

B       Medium: This walk will generally be a moderate stroll.

C       Reasonable: This walk will follow a normal walking pace.

 

1       Easy: Mainly flat walking, on paths with good surfaces.  Few steps or stiles, if any.

2        Fairly Easy: Gentle, rolling landscape, walking on paths with good to average surfaces. Some walking on gentle inclines, some stiles or steps to be expected en route.

3        Moderate: Varying landscape with some more challenging slopes. Stiles and steps to be expected en route, suitable for keen walkers and anyone who is reasonably active.
